Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 April 2026

Our Promise to You

At Dive Deep Dating, we understand that privacy is essential — especially when you're exploring relationships, sharing personal goals with an AI coach, or connecting with someone new. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and how we keep it safe.

The short version: your data stays yours. We don't sell it, we don't use it for advertising, and your coaching conversations are never used to train AI models.

Age Requirement

Dive Deep Dating is for users aged 18 and over. We confirm age at signup by asking for your date of birth. We use it to calculate your age and store only that you are 18 or over (the bracket "18+") — we don't keep your date of birth after that. Spicy Mode and any other adult-themed content require this age confirmation before activation.

We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if we discover an account belongs to a minor we will delete it promptly.

What We Collect

Account Information

  • Email address — required for sign-in and purchase receipts
  • Display name — optional, shown in sessions
  • Authentication provider — which sign-in method you used (email, Google, or Apple)

App Usage Data

  • Question responses and ratings — your answers and compatibility ratings during sessions
  • Self-assessments — readiness checks, confidence exercises, and reflection worksheets
  • Session history — which modes you've used, session dates, and growth metrics
  • Game results — scores and choices from Games Hub activities

AI Coaching Conversations (Sparky)

  • Messages you send to Sparky — your questions, reflections, and the context you share
  • Sparky's responses — stored so Sparky can remember your situation across sessions
  • Coaching context — goals, patterns, and preferences you've discussed, used to personalise future sessions

Payment Information

  • Purchase records — which add-ons or subscriptions you've bought, dates, and amounts
  • PayPal transaction IDs — for receipt and support purposes
  • We never see or store your payment card details — PayPal handles all payment processing

Technical Data

  • Analytics — anonymous usage patterns (with your consent) via Google Analytics
  • Bot protection tokens — Cloudflare Turnstile verifies you're human during certain actions (no tracking cookies)
  • Error logs — technical errors to help us fix bugs (no personal content)

Newsletter Subscribers (Insights Visitors)

If you subscribe to our newsletter from the Insights articles without creating an account, we collect:

  • Email address — the one you enter in the subscribe form
  • Source — which article or page you subscribed from, so we can see which content is bringing people in
  • User agent and timestamp — standard technical metadata on the submission

That's it. No name, no location, no linked account data (unless you later create one with the same email). You can unsubscribe at any time — every newsletter email has a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom, and you can also email us directly to have your address removed from the list.

Reader Reflections (Insights Articles)

If you submit a reflection at the end of an article, we collect the reflection text plus the optional name and email you choose to provide. Reflections are private by default; we only publish them beneath the article if you explicitly give permission, and only after we've read and moderated them.

How We Use Your Data

We Use Your Data To:

  • Provide and personalise the Service — including AI coaching that remembers your context
  • Process purchases and manage your add-on access
  • Send transactional emails — purchase confirmations, verification emails, and account notifications
  • Send the Dive Deep Dialogues newsletter (only if you subscribe — you can unsubscribe at any time)
  • Track your growth and progress through the Growth Dashboard
  • Generate anonymous, aggregated statistics to improve the Service (with consent)

We Never:

  • Sell your data to anyone — not advertisers, not data brokers, not dating platforms
  • Use your coaching conversations to train, fine-tune, or improve AI models
  • Share your personal responses with other users (unless you explicitly choose to in a session)
  • Use your data for advertising or targeted marketing
  • Access the content of your voice or video calls (they're peer-to-peer — we can't)

Legal Bases for Processing (UK and EU/EEA Users)

For users in the UK and EU/EEA, we rely on the following lawful bases under UK GDPR and EU GDPR Article 6:

  • Contract (Art. 6.1.b) — providing the app, running sessions, processing coaching chats you've started, handling voice/video calls, and processing add-on purchases. Without this basis we cannot deliver the Service.
  • Legitimate interest (Art. 6.1.f) — fraud prevention, security (App Check, rate limits, Turnstile), keeping minimal server logs for troubleshooting. We've balanced this against your rights and only rely on it where necessary.
  • Consent (Art. 6.1.a) — analytics cookies, the newsletter, and optional features you explicitly turn on (including Spicy Mode). You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligation (Art. 6.1.c) — keeping tax records for 7 years under Australian law, and complying with lawful requests from authorities.

Sensitive Information

Some features of the app can involve data classified as "special category" under GDPR Article 9 and "sensitive information" under Australian Privacy Principle 3 — for example, choices you make in Spicy Mode, journal entries about mental wellbeing, or inferences about sexual orientation or preferences from sessions with a partner.

We only process this data based on your explicit consent, given when you first activate the relevant feature:

  • Spicy Mode requires a multi-step consent flow before any content appears: age verification, an introduction to the content types, and granular checkboxes where you opt in to specific heat levels (Warm, Hot, Scorching) independently. In multiplayer sessions, both partners must consent separately and we only serve heat levels that both of you opted in to.
  • You can withdraw consent at any time — one tap during a session via the "Disable Spicy Mode" control ends the feature for you (and in multiplayer, for your partner too). Withdrawal is as easy as giving consent, as required by GDPR Article 7.3.
  • We never use sensitive information for advertising and never share it with third parties beyond the infrastructure providers listed below under Third-Party Services.

AI Coaching Privacy (Sparky)

Because Sparky remembers your context across sessions, we want to be especially clear about how your coaching data is handled:

  • Processing: Your messages are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI via Google Vertex AI to generate Sparky's responses. This processing happens in real time and the AI provider does not retain your conversations for training or any other purpose.
  • Storage: Your coaching conversation history is stored in Firebase (Google Cloud) with Australian data residency — your data stays in Australia.
  • No training guarantee: Your conversations are explicitly excluded from AI model training under our data processing agreements with both Anthropic and Google.
  • Deletion: You can delete your entire coaching history at any time. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
  • Scope: Sparky only sees conversations within the Dive Deep Dating app. It does not have access to your data in other Dive Deep Dialogues apps unless you use coaching in those apps separately.

Voice and Video Call Privacy

  • Peer-to-peer: Voice and video data flows directly between participants using WebRTC. It does not pass through or get stored on our servers.
  • No recordings: We do not and cannot record your calls.
  • No phone numbers: Connections are made via session codes only. Your phone number is never shared with other participants.
  • Signalling data: Minimal connection metadata (session codes, connection state) passes through our servers to establish the peer-to-peer link, then is discarded.

Session Mode Privacy

When using session-based features (Dive Deep, Deep Dive, Games Hub):

  • Your answers remain completely private unless you choose to share them
  • Self-assessments and ratings are visible only to you unless explicitly shared
  • Session codes expire automatically for security
  • Your partner cannot see your private reflections or notes

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to provide the Service:

  • Firebase (Google Cloud) — authentication, data storage, and hosting. Australian data residency for coaching data.
  • Anthropic Claude via Google Vertex AI — AI processing for Sparky coaching. No data retention for training.
  • PayPal — payment processing for add-ons and subscriptions. See PayPal's Privacy Policy.
  • Resend — transactional and newsletter email delivery.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — bot protection. No tracking cookies. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Analytics — anonymous usage analytics (with your consent). See Google's Privacy Policy.

Data Transfers Outside Your Region

Our core cloud infrastructure (Firebase, Google Cloud) stores data in Australia (australia-southeast1). Some sub-processing — such as authentication, analytics, and payment processing — may occur on the provider's global infrastructure, which may include the United States, United Kingdom or other jurisdictions.

  • For EU/EEA users, these transfers rely on the European Commission's adequacy decision for the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and, where needed, Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).
  • For UK users, transfers rely on the UK Extension to the Data Privacy Framework and the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA).
  • For Australian users, overseas disclosure complies with APP 8. Before disclosing personal information overseas we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles it consistently with the APPs.

Cross-App Authentication

Dive Deep Dating uses the Dive Deep Dialogues Auth Hub for sign-in. This means:

  • Your account works across all Dive Deep Dialogues apps with a single sign-in
  • Your email, display name, and subscription status are shared with the Auth Hub
  • Your app-specific data (coaching conversations, session history, game results) stays within Dive Deep Dating and is not shared with other DDD apps

Your Control Over Your Data

You have complete control over your information:

  • Access: View all data we hold about you at any time through the app
  • Export: Download your complete dating-app data as JSON from the Growth Dashboard → "Your cloud data" panel — Sparky coaching profile and chats, session history, reflections, journal entries, tracked dating apps and monthly debriefs
  • Delete: Permanently delete every piece of dating-app data we hold for you (Sparky coaching, session history, reflections, journal, tracked apps, monthly debriefs) using the "Delete all my dating data" button on the Growth Dashboard. To delete your entire Dive Deep Dialogues login identity (across all DDD apps), use the self-service deletion page. There's a 30-day grace period — you can cancel any time before then. If you'd rather not use the self-service path, email [email protected] and we'll process it within 30 days.
  • Correct: Update your display name, email, or other account details
  • Opt out of analytics: Withdraw consent for anonymous usage tracking at any time
  • Unsubscribe: One-click unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time
  • Withdraw consent: Any consent you've given (Spicy Mode, analytics, sensitive-information processing) can be withdrawn with the same ease it was given

To exercise any of these rights, use the controls in the app or email [email protected].

Your Rights Under Australian Law

Dive Deep Dating is operated from Australia and complies with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the 13 Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Under Australian law you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we hold about you, and how it's being used and disclosed (APP 1, APP 12)
  • Request correction of personal information you believe is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant, or misleading (APP 13)
  • Access your personal information within a reasonable period, free of charge (APP 12)
  • Have your sensitive information processed only with your consent (APP 3)
  • Make a complaint about how we handle your personal information

Complaints can be directed to [email protected]. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

Under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme (Part IIIC of the Privacy Act), we will notify you and the OAIC if a data breach is likely to result in serious harm to affected individuals.

California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act:

  • Right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose
  • Right to delete personal information we hold about you
  • Right to correct inaccurate personal information
  • Right to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information
  • Right to limit use of sensitive personal information
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. To exercise your CCPA/CPRA rights, use the export and delete tools in the app or email [email protected].

UK Residents (UK GDPR)

If you are in the United Kingdom, your rights under UK GDPR mirror those in the EU section above — including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Data Stored on Your Device

To make the app fast and work offline, Dive Deep Dating keeps a local copy of some of your data in your browser's storage on this device. This includes journal entries, coaching session summaries, dating app tracker entries, session history, and your UI preferences. It stays on your device and is never shared with other websites.

You can see exactly what's stored and clear it at any time from the Growth Dashboard — scroll to the "Your data on this device" panel. Clearing local data does not affect your cloud data (if you're signed in) or sign you out.

Analytics consent: We only set analytics cookies after you accept the small banner on your first visit. Declining is fine — the app works completely without analytics. You can change your choice at any time by clearing the "Analytics consent choice" entry in the same panel (a fresh banner will appear on your next visit).

Data Retention

  • Account data: Retained while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
  • Coaching conversations: Retained while your account is active, or until you delete them. Deletion is permanent.
  • Session history: Retained while your account is active.
  • Payment records: Retained for 7 years as required by Australian tax law.
  • Analytics data: Anonymised and aggregated — cannot be linked back to you.

Children's Privacy

Dive Deep Dating is designed for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or email. The "last updated" date at the top of this page indicates the most recent revision.
